Finger Lakes Competition

This week we attended a competition a little closer to home. The Finger Lakes Regional Competition takes place at RIT (Rochester Institute of Technology) every year. It was our team’s first FIRST regional, and a lot of our senior students end up attending the college after graduation. It was nice to see old members of the team during the competition, as many came to see how the robot was doing. We...

Pittsburgh Competition

Last Thursday, the team traveled to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to partake in the competition at California University of Pennsylvania. The competition was a blast, and we learned a lot about our robot, as well as other robots that we will see again at Finger Lakes Regional. We saw many fantastically constructed robots, and Fezzik (the man himself) performed great. Our team didn’t make it into the elimination matches, but we learned...

Week 1 After Build Season

With the robot finally completed and bagged earlier this week, we have focused all our attention on our replacement robot, Inigo. He’s fully put together and is undergoing testing to make sure that he works like he’s supposed to. Mechanical has been very busy the past couple weeks getting everything completed in time, and it has paid off. Once we got the 3D-Printed wheels from Rochester Optical, Mechanical was able...

Week 6 of build season, 2016

With build season ending in less than a week, we have finally finished the first robot, and begun testing. Mechanical is still hard at work on creating the second robot, as well as fine-tuning the first as programming tests and debugs the code. The programming team is also working on implementing some encoders so that our robot can be programmed to take action during the autonomous period. The Electrical Team...

End of Week 3 2016

Build Season is officially halfway over! We have finally completed several important aspects of the Robot’s final construction. The CAD designs for the robot are complete, and we will soon have hands on all the physical parts necessary to build the robot. The robot is set to be completed a week and a half before build season ends, giving us ample time to test and streamline the design and controls. The Electrical Team...

Week 1 of Build Season, 2016

It’s finally here! The new FIRST game this year is called Stronghold, and it looks like a blast. In case you haven’t heard, here’s the video: It looks complicated, and it looks challenging, but let’s get excited because it looks fun! The goal of our team this season is to make a robot that is able to be useful in all aspects of this game. As can be plainly seen, this...

Week 3 of Training New Members, 2015

Today marks the third official training day for new members to our team. Again we split into groups, with several new members testing the waters in various sub-teams to see if it fits them. The programming team is working with the robot for the first time, seeing how the code “talks” to the robot, and how the autonomous code works. The mechanical team is beginning to design a new test...

Week 2 of Training New Members, 2015

This year, we are taking greater steps in the training and initiation of newer members to our team. We have split the new members into different groups for training and an introduction to FIRST. They split similar to the sub-teams for training, grouped into mechanical, electrical, programming, and business. Business is being made a large priority this year, larger than it was previously. We have taken active steps to recruit new...
